What have you been reading lately?
???
Have you read any fantastic books lately, or any that you’d definitely discourage others from picking up? Tell us what made them so great (or unappealing). Were they the sorts of books you usually enjoy? What do you plan to read next?

I read a book recently called Wild Swans which dealt with the many hardships and revolutionary changes in the past century. It covers this great spectrum of time using the lives of three women who experienced the Revolution, and each had different opinions of the benefits and cruelties of the time. Like many other books of Chinese authors, chapters are named using amazing proverbs, which are all suitable and give the novel a rather poetic style. The three women in question are a concubine married to a warlord general, and whose father wanted desperately to get rid of her so that he could succeed in life; her daughter, a Communist Party official married to a higher ranking official; and her daughter, the author herself who shares her experiences and ideas of the time.

Not sure why this sentence has been left hanging in mid air…maybe there’s a word limit on comments. (I’m still learning about the Edublogs software). Whoever you are, I think we need to set you up as a contributor so you can write your own posts and they’ll be published on the ‘front page’ of The Portal. Would you be interested in doing this? If so, please come and see me in the library on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday!

Mrs. Sweeney,
Sorry that I didn’t speak to you on Wednesday about becoming an author as I had not yet read your response! However, if you have not yet met me, I think I asked you a question in the library on Wednesday about ‘an history or ‘a history’. However, in case I go over the word limit, I should get to the point; I would be very interested in becoming an author on this blog as I love reading and writing and do plenty of each. In fact, I have started writing my own book at the moment. Sadly, we are in the holidays, so it may have to wait until next term…

Mrs. Sweeney,
Is it possible to publish written works onto the Portal? If so, I would be very interested in doing so.
How exciting! I think it’s fantastic that you’re writing a novel! Yes, we are keen to publish some examples of student writing, although we won’t be publishing novel- length works here. Short stories would be ideal, or perhaps excerpts from novels. This might be a good way to elicit feedback from some enthusiastic readers. Come and see me when school returns. Meanwhile, check your school email – we’ll try to get you set up as a contributor during the holidays.
