Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamda Ngozi Adichie
Half of a Yellow Sun is an immensely satisfying book about relationships and their complications, tribal antagonism and world wide political apathy, set against the backdrop of the Nigerian civil war in the 1960s.
Adichie is a wonderful story teller who deftly builds sympathetic and believable characters, only to have them succumb to temptation and slowly disintegrate under pressure. This is a fascinating look at the pressures that war applies to intense loyalties and long held, previously unchallenged values. Highly recommended to staff and senior students.
